Carlos Cruz-Diez

“Soy un hombre libre, soy un hombre feliz”

Carlos Cruz-Diez nació en Caracas-Venezuela en agosto de 1923 y es, actualmente, el máximo representante del arte cinético.

En sus obras, Cruz-Diez maneja conceptos pictóricos que revolucionan técnicas tradicionales empleadas. Las concepciones del rojo y el verde como únicos colores primarios, del blanco como fuente de luz o color y del negro como negación de la luz, están presentes en casi todas sus obras.

Cruz-Diez es un mago de los efectos visuales y con frecuencia aplica coloridas mezclas sobre un plano único y produce colores que no han sido aplicados, originando un color virtual o subjetivo. A todas estas experiencias el artista las llamó Fisiocromías.

La Fundación Artistas Unidos, a la cual pertenezco, tuvo el gran honor de entrevistar al maestro en su paso por la Ciudad de Miami. Y en nuestra inquietud de saber que piensa sobre “La Cura y El Arte” nos respondió:

“El Arte y La Cura han estado latente siempre, solo que ahora se toma conciencia de ello. Cuando la gente escribe u oye música, escribe u oye poesía, cuando va a un concierto, ve una obra de teatro, sale de un museo, te has curado, sales con otro espíritu, es como si hubieses pasado por un esterilizador, es maravilloso, todo el mundo debe tener acceso al Arte, a esa Cura.

Si yo no pudiera hacer Arte yo no pudiera vivir. El Arte es comunicación, uno comunica lo que ha descubierto, lo que uno ama.

El Arte es un mensaje directo al espíritu, es el mas bello y maravilloso mecanismo de comunicación, que el hombre ha podido inventar.”

La sensibilidad artística de la obra de Cruz-Díez reside en su carácter experimental; el autor no busca un arte intimista, por considerarlo egoísta: y aunque trabaja apoyado en patrones, ritmos y sistemas, para Cruz-Díez, el arte debe ser experimentado, vivido y compartido. Por ello se centra en recrear el entorno propicio para que las personas vivan el arte, propiciando una interactividad entre la obra y su observador

No pudimos cerrar de mejor manera nuestro encuentro con el maestro Carlos Cruz-Diez que cuando se le solicito apadrinara nuestra Fundación Artistas Unidos, acepto respondiendo “ser padrino de la fundación para mi es un honor”*

“I am a free man, I am a happy man”

Carlos Cruz-Diez was born in Caracas-Venezuela in August 1923 and is currently the maximum representative of kinetic art.

In his Works, Cruz-Diez handles pictorial concepts that revolutionize traditional techniques used.
Conceptions of red and green as the only primary colors, the white as the light source or color and black as negation of light, are present in almost all his works.
Cruz-Diez is a magician of visual effects and often colorful mixtures applied on a single plane and produces colors that have not been applied, resulting in a virtual or subjective color. All these experiences the artist called them Fisiocromías.

The United Artists Foundation, to which I belong, had the great honor of interview him on his way through by the City of Miami. And to our concern to know what he thinks about "The Cure and The Art" he replied:

"Art and the Cure have always been latent, only now we realize it.
When people write or listen to music, write or hear poetry, when going to a concert, see a theater play, and out of a museum, you've healed.
People come out with another spirit, it's like you've been through a sterilizer, it is wonderful, and everyone must have access to Art. This is the Cure.

If I could not do art, I could not live. Art is communication, you communicates what you has discovered, what you love.
Art is a direct message to the spirit, it is the most beautiful and wonderful mechanism of communication that man has ever invented. "

The artistic sensibility of the work of Cruz-Diez is based in his experimental nature; the author does not seek an intimate art, considering this as selfish and although he works supported by patterns, rhythms and systems, to Cruz-Diez, art should be experienced, lived and shared. Therefore it focuses on recreating the enabling environment for people to live art, promoting interactivity between the work and its observer
We could not close better our encounter with Carlos Cruz-Diez that when I asked him to be godfather of the Foundation, he answered "to be godfather of the Artista Unidos Foundation for me is an honor".
